Tom Cruise is preparing to reprise his role of Lt. Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell in the upcoming sequel of the 1986 movie Top Gun; Top Gun: Maverick. Wow... 33 years is a huge gap, isn’t it?
Although the film is to be released in 2019, the Mission Impossible actor has already begun training by taking to the skies in a helicopter last weekend.
“We're going to have the same tone that we had for the first movie,” he said last month.
“Stylistically, it's going to be the same. We're going to have the same score from Harold Faltermeyer.
“The aviators are back. We'll have the need for speed and big fast machines. It's going to be a competition film, like the first one, and it's going to be in the same vein but a progression. There's going to be aircraft carriers and there's going to be jets. I'm very excited, it's a great challenge.”
Top Gun saw Tom Cruise play a rebellious and reckless Naval Aviator competing with other aviators to become best in the class in the Top Gun School at Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar. Also in the cast were Kelly McGillis who played Charlie Blackwood- Maverick’s love interest and civilian instructor, Val Kilmer, Anthony Edwards, Tom Skerritt, Michael Ironside and Meg Ryan.
Top Gun fans will remember its hauntingly beautiful soundtrack by Berlin- Take My Breath Away- which won a well deserved Oscar and a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song in 1986.
