TOM CRUISE GEARS UP FOR 'TOP GUN' SEQUEL

Tom Cruise is preparing to reprise his role of Lt. Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell in the upcoming sequel of the 1986 movie Top Gun; Top Gun: Maverick. Wow... 33 years is a huge gap, isn’t it?
Although the film is to be released in 2019, the Mission Impossible actor has already begun training by taking to the skies in a helicopter last weekend.

We're going to have the same tone that we had for the first movie,” he said last month.
“Stylistically, it's going to be the same. We're going to have the same score from Harold Faltermeyer.
“The aviators are back. We'll have the need for speed and big fast machines. It's going to be a competition film, like the first one, and it's going to be in the same vein but a progression. There's going to be aircraft carriers and there's going to be jets. I'm very excited, it's a great challenge.”

Top Gun saw Tom Cruise play a rebellious and reckless Naval Aviator competing with other aviators to become best in the class in the Top Gun School at Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar. Also in the cast were Kelly McGillis who played Charlie Blackwood- Maverick’s love interest and civilian instructor, Val Kilmer, Anthony Edwards, Tom Skerritt, Michael Ironside and Meg Ryan.
Top Gun fans will remember its hauntingly beautiful soundtrack by Berlin- Take My Breath Away- which won a well deserved Oscar and a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song in 1986.

IDRIS ELBA & MATTHEW McCONAUGHEY CLASH IN 'THE DARK TOWER'

Reel Sum Up...

Roland, the last Gunslinger (Idris Elba) is locked in an eternal battle with the villainous ‘Man in Black’ (Matthew McConaughey).  The Gunslinger must prevent the Man in Black from toppling the Dark Tower, the key that holds the universe together. With the fate of worlds at stake, two men collide in the ultimate battle between good and evil. Along for the ride is Jake (Tom Taylor), Roland’s protégé  who has to complete the journey with him.

The Dark Tower  is an adaptation and sequel of Stephen King’s 8 volume Dark Tower novel series- Volume 1( The Gunslinger)  published  in 1982 and Volume 8 (The Wind Through The Keyhole) published in 2012. Add yet another  feather in your cap Mr. King; so many of your books have made it to film and T.V already!
Since The Dark Tower is in eight parts, why can’t the powers that be (King himself one of the film’s producers)  simply give Game of Thrones a run for their money by simply  making it into a T.V series instead?
Apparently not, because this film is to be the first instalment of a film AND T.V franchise, which will combine elements from several novels in the  series, taking place partly in modern-day New York City and partly in Mid-World, Roland's  Old West-style parallel universe.  If you are an ardent Stephen King fan, you are in for a very  exciting ride.

The Dark Tower will be released on the 4th of August, 2017.

TAKE ONE! : TADE OGIDAN BEGINS SHOOTING 'GOLD STATUE'

Back to work  with a vengeance, ace filmmaker Tade Ogidan has begun shooting  his new film, Gold Statue; a collaboration between OGD Pictures, Solution Media and InfoTech.

Reel Sum Up...

Two friends, Wale and Chike go in search of a gold statue which is believed to be an inherited deity. While trying to find the location of the supposed statue, is located 'a series of unimaginable ordeals and put themselves through some ridiculously painful situations.
Among the cast are actors and actresses who have appeared in Ogidan’s previous films; Richard Mofe Damijo, Segun Arinze, Sola Sobowale, Francis Onwuchie, Nobert Young and Remi Surutu. Also featuring; Gabriel Afolayan, Yvonne Jegede, Kunle Remi, Judith Aude, comedian Ali Baba Akporobome and Tina Mba.

No offence, but the plot sort of echoes that of Andy Amechie’s Oracle and Kunle Afolayan’s 2009 film The Figurine. Some guys look for a sacred artefact.... haven’t we seen that already? And what, pray tell, do Wale and Chike intend on doing with the Gold Statue when it’s found?

Well, we just have to be patient and wait for the finished product to hit the cinemas!

'IT' OFFICIAL TRAILER

Reel Sum Up...

An adaptation of Stephen King’s 1986 novel, the movie is set in Derry, Maine; where a group of children are terrorised by an entity (It) who wakes up every 3 decades and has the ability of changing its shape and may be linked to the recent cases of missing children in the area. In the course of the story, the children are forced to face their worst demons.

Not a movie for non- horror buffs of course, but it is a remake of the 1990 miniseries of the same name. Nor would it be a movie for those who are scared of clowns but then again, not all clowns are funny... look at The Joker for example!
And hopefully, it will turn out to be a great adaptation, because we all know not all book adaptations turn out good, the main reason why some of King's adaptations turned out well was because King himself wrote the screenplays.

Directed by Andres Muchietti, the movie is set to be released on the 8th of September, 2017.

CREED 2: STALLONE CONFIRMS DRAGO'S RETURN

Rocky fans will be psyched to hear about who will be appearing in Creed 2, the sequel of the Rocky movies' spinoff, Creed (2015). Sylvester Stallone, who wrote, directed and starred in the  the Rocky franchise (which plummented him to stardom) has confirmed that Dolph Lungren will be reprising his role of Ivan Drago- the ruthless Russian  boxer who punched Rocky's friend and former rival, Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) to death  in Rocky IV (1985).

Apollo's death is regarded as one of the most heartbreaking scenes in film history. Just imagine, a popular boxer gets killed in the ring and the culprit could'nt care less? Early this month, Sly posted this on Instagram:

  • Here's a chance to stretch your imagination ... HISTORY WILL ALWAYS REPEAT ITSELF IN ONE FORM OR ANOTHER, JUST GOT TO BE READY! ... Sins of the Father.... #creed2 # agentnickyc #rockybalboa

Just recently was this message:

JUST DONE .... if you are curious , around 439 handwritten pages translates into about a 120 page typed screenplay ...#writers cramp #rockybalboa #drago #adoniscreed #MGM

In Creed, (not penned or directed by Sly) Michael B. Jordan played Adonis 'Donnie', Apollo's illegimate son who was adopted and raised by Apollo's compassionate widow (Phylicia Rashad). And while he never got to meet Apollo, Donnie had inherited his thirst for boxing and who should he go to for training but the retired Rocky Balboa (Stallone). In the sequel, Drago will not only reappear but it seems like he and young Creed will face each other in the ring. Rocky settled accounts with him in Rocky IV, so if  a Creed/Draco faceoff is actually going to happen, WHO is going to be the challenger here? Adonis, to pay the man out for killing his father or will be Ivan, who feels he can handle Apollo's son as well?
Might be the second guess, because 59 year old Dolph Lungren had this to say (jokingly of course!) after seeing Creed when it came out:

I must break you. Sorry kid, you’re very weak for a young kid. Now it’s your turn.”

Filming of the much anticipated sequel begins next year.

TADE OGIDAN COMES OUT OF HIATUS

Since his 2011 movie, Family On Fire; ace filmmaker, Tade Ogidan has been absent in the movie scene. Now he’s raring to begin work on his new movie, Gold Statue, a story set in a prison.
In a recent interview with The Nation; Ogidan revealed he’s  not been idle while on hiatus- keeping himself busy by making T.V commercials and documentaries. Unlike most Nollywood filmmakers, he found producing several movies in a year “impractical”.

The kind of stories that I have, they need to calm you down, they need you to research,  they need you to do the right thing and those are the things that make whatever movies I make work.’

True and wide words from a prolific filmmaker.

Ogidan’s movie credits include Owo Blow , Out of Bounds , Hostages 1&2, Diamond Ring 1&2 (1998), Saving Alero, Raging Storm and Playing Games

OMOTOLA JALADE MAKES A COMEBACK IN 'ALTER EGO'

Her Penchant for Justice Goes Beyond The Court Room...

Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde made a staggering comeback in Alter Ego; which premiered yesterday in  Cinemas nationwide. The movie takes a blunt look at  sexual molestation of women and young children in Nigeria.

Ekeinde  plays a crusading lawyer who seeks out her own form of justice on sex offenders who manage to escape conviction; by unleashing a different and sensually dangerous side of herself.
The movie is produced and directed by Moses Ewang; and also stars Wale Ojo, Jide Kosoko Kunle and Gregory Ojefua.

Looks like Eikende has another money maker under her belt but according to reports, some prissy fans are grumbling about the stimulated sex scenes in the movie, (going as far as to say they were real) which caused actor Wale Ojo to issue a statement denying it. Seriously people, are you kidding?

JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE- ON DECEMBER 20th 2017, THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES

REEL SUM UP

Four high school students are made to serve detention by clearing  the school basement, where they stumble upon Jumaji. Only this time, the magical board game is now a vintage video game version. Choosing  their avatars, the four teenagers find themselves sucked into the game's vast jungle setting- and as grown up avatars they had chosen. To get back the real world, they must of of course do what Alan Parrish and his friends did... FINISH THE GAME!

Another unexpected-albeit stand alone- of a classic movie, personally I didn't think there would be another attempt after Zathura which was made in 2005 and loosely based on the illustrated book of the name by Chris Van Allburg, author of Jumanji. Zathura is regarded as the 'spiritual sequel' of the 1995 movie, though, unlike the book, Jumanji's events were not mentioned. And, unfortunately, it didn't do well in the box office.
The question is, will this upcoming  hold a candle to the 1995 original version starring the late- and greatly missed Robin Williams or there be the inevitable comparisons between this one or the original? And why it is now a video game, the last we saw of the game was it half buried in the sand in a French beach. One conclusion, it is a magic game, it probably has the ability to change its own appearance!
It stars the very macho Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and there is Kevin Hart- hence a lot of laughs in the midst of all the action and danger. Along with them are Jack Black and Karen Gillan.
The movie is directed by Jack Kasdan and will be released in the States on December 20th, 2017.
