JAZZ AND BLUES LEGEND AL JARREAU GONE AT 76

On a sad note, Jazz and Blues legend and seven time Grammy Award winner Al Jarreau has died. He passed away yesterday surrounded by his family and friends; two days after announcing his retirement and a month away from his 77th birthday. No cause of death is yet to be reported but on the 8th of this month, Jarreau had been hospitalised for exhaustion, which forced him to cancel his tour dates.
Jarreau began his career in the Jazz genre, performing in popular night clubs and getting television exposure. After getting signed on by Warner Bros. Records in 1975, Jarreau performed on Saturday Night Live on Valentine's Day and released his debut album We Go By which catapulted him to international fame. In 1978, Jarreau won his first Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Performance for his album, Look To The Rainbow and in 1982 for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for Breakin' Away.

Al Jarreau was among the all star performers of the 'USA FOR AFRICA' charity song, We Are The World and will be forever remembered for writing and performing the hit theme song of 1980s comedy-drama mystery ABC T.V series Moonlighting; which launched the careers of Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd.
